This is good news for Kauai residents, showing local police tech is helping solve property crimes faster.

• License plate reader technology flagged fake plates on a truck in Lihue.
• The truck had been reported stolen two weeks earlier.
• Officers identified and arrested a 46-year-old suspect on suspicion of unauthorized control of the vehicle.
• The suspect also had an outstanding bench warrant.

Outlook: Expect police to keep leaning on license plate readers to recover stolen vehicles and catch wanted suspects.
