Taiwan Stocks Surge 700 Points Intraday to Reclaim 49,000 on Eve of TSMC Investor Conference

Oct 14, 2026

Taiwan's stock market staged a strong rebound, led by TSMC on rising volume — good news for investors, though continued heavy selling by foreign institutional investors remains a concern.

  • The Taiwan market jumped more than 700 points intraday on the 14th, climbing back above the 49,000 mark, before paring gains to close up 284 points at 48,625.
  • TSMC steadied and pulled back to test its monthly moving average ahead of its investor conference before rebounding; the market expects third-quarter net profit after tax to rise 65% year on year, with the highest foreign-institutional target price set at NT$4,410.
  • In the petrochemical group, Formosa Plastics and Formosa Chemicals & Fibre both hit their daily limit up, while Asia Electronic Material in the CCL group also surged to its limit, as buying in upstream electronic materials turned markedly stronger.
  • Foreign institutional investors posted their third-largest single-day net sell on record on the 13th and continued to pull funds out on the 14th on New Taiwan dollar exchange-rate considerations, making them the biggest source of pressure on the market.
  • The IMF sharply raised its forecast for Taiwan's real GDP growth this year from 5.2% to 10.7%, making Taiwan the only economy in the world upgraded to double-digit growth, on the back of advanced AI chip capacity.

Outlook: If TSMC delivers strong results at its investor conference on the 15th, the Taiwan market has a chance to push to 49,500–49,900, though whether it can hold those levels will depend on whether trading volume expands in step.
