Taiwan and Poland launch semiconductor cooperation on gallium nitride chips

Oct 14, 2026

Taiwan has struck its first chip-technology deal with Poland, a win for both countries' power-semiconductor ambitions and a quiet diplomatic gain for Taipei in Central Europe.

  • Taiwan's foreign minister Lin Chia-lung visited Poland this week and announced a joint program on gallium nitride power chips, used in electric cars and energy systems.
  • Taiwan's ITRI will run the work with Poland's state microelectronics and photonics institute, with a cooperation memorandum due to be signed soon.
  • The setup sends Taiwanese technology out, puts Polish engineers on the applications, and routes the manufacturing orders back to Taiwan.
  • Lin also met friendly lawmakers from Poland, Lithuania, the Czech Republic and Estonia, and visited Acer's 400-worker Polish plant, Taiwan's gateway into the European supply chain.
  • Taiwan repeated its pledge to keep funding Ukraine aid and postwar rebuilding through Polish humanitarian partners.

Outlook: The memorandum signing is the next step, and expect Taiwan to use chip partnerships to deepen ties with more European states.
