Mountain View man charged with assaulting two Keaʻau police officers
A Hawaii Island man faces charges after allegedly attacking two officers during an arrest, a bad outcome for him and a reminder of the risks patrol officers face on routine calls.
- Prosecutors charged 44-year-old Justin Santagani of Mountain View over an incident last Friday.
- Officers were called to a Keaʻau shopping center for a disturbance and say he approached them and turned aggressive.
- During the arrest he allegedly headbutted one officer and kicked the other in the chest several times.
- Both officers were assaulted during what began as a routine disturbance call.
Outlook: The case moves forward in Hawaii Island courts, where assault-on-an-officer charges carry serious penalties.
